Questions to ask any firm

Ask what the fee is a share of. It may be a share of the tax saved, or a share of the drop in appraised value. Ask whether there is a minimum fee or an upfront fee. Ask what you owe if the value does not drop. Ask who goes to the hearing. Ask how to cancel. Ask which languages the firm works in.

You can also protest on your own

Texas owners can file a property tax protest themselves at no cost. Our Harris County filing guide shows the steps to file.
